My 2 year-old just destroyed my less-than-a-year-old TV. I'm replacing it today, because I need a damn TV. Should I go with !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! or !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! ?
Is there another I should consider in this price range?

I would save your money, buy this , and save up more for when better displays like 4k come out.

Get the old one the only difference between them is that the old one has a built in camera where you need to buy it separately on the new one. Also the UI has been updated on the new one which isn't a huge deal because I've yet to run into a TV UI that is spectacular and I doubt the one year upgrade is that significant.

I just keep telling myself "at least the boy is OK" which helps, but only a little.

What you're saying there makes a lot of sense.

When we got our first flat screen, I seriously considered rigging up some sort of protective screen for it. I envisioned a piece of plexiglass or some other clear plastic big enough to cover the screen, with some sort of brackets at the top. It would hang on the set during the day, and the child could watch it through the plexi. Then at night, after the child goes to bed, you can simply lift the cover off. I also thought that would be good to have when we got a Wii, but I instituted a strict "must use wrist strap and must be standing behind the coffee table" rule.
As for which TV, I'd opt for the cheaper one. It looks like it's plenty of TV, and you save $120. Use the savings to construct a TV guard.

I had a Sony 37" top of the line - loved it. Then we were given a Pioneer plasma 42. The colors and picture difference from LED/LCD are dramatic. Pioneer, Panasonic, and LG have exited the plasma business, but Samsung still makes them. Go look at one. You might be persuaded.

If you can spare a little more, this one: http://www.amazon.com/LG-Electronics…
Bigger screen, 3D (which is good, I love my 3D TV, but it's only 1080p), 4K resolution, smart, LED. It's LG, which I've generally had good luck with as far as electronics go, and it's just a little bit more than the higher-cost one you posted. Slightly older, but might be worth it.

Not to start a plasma vs LED debate but I got my 52" plasma Samsung (non smart or 3D BS) for right around $600 and its pretty beast. No screen burn issues, 600mhz refresh. the only drawback is it puts off a lot of heat. I had it by my thermostat and it screwed the air temps all up since the ambient heat from it is like 110

I've got two, the larger in the living room is a 42" Vizio LED I got from Costco. I have been completely satisfied with it, though I'm no cinephile. I don't watch many movies, or have a home theater, but I watch tons of sports on it. It's great.

Looking at your comment on a 24 inch Vizio LED - it cost no more than a decent monitor, so I got one. But the plasma, especially for watching the Jets lose, is great.

Ours gives off a lot of heat as well, and they use more electricity, but what a great picture. Apparently this set is a Pioneer Kuro - they have somewhat of a cult following. It's not smart, but it's pretty.

I think they look phenomenal. And the power thing its only something like a couple more dollars worth of electricity used A Year. I'm more than ok with spending the extra dollar a month on my bill for a great picture, huge tv, huge savings over LED and free heat during the winter.

Agreed. Is yours heavier than an LED?

I believe it is. My other tv is led but smaller, though it's considerably lighter than the plasma.

The Kuros are absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately most Plasmas still in production are not anywhere near as nice.

We are very lucky to have this set - the GFs boss was redocorating, and he offered it to us. I toyed briefly last year with the idea of getting a Panasonic smart plasma before they stopped making them. Fantastic picture. But then I thought, why get rid of such a nice TV? (NB - we live in 550 SF, there is no room for 2 large TVs). So it's not smart - would I use those features anyway? This TV, hooked to a TIVO and a PS3 (and some old Danish speakers I bought during law school) is more than enough. With it I can see, all too clearly, the Jets lose. 1 and 15 is within their abilities!

I don't really care for smart tvs. I bought a Vizio one and it's great but totally not needed. I have a Chromecast, a PS3, and a Wii U and I almost never use the smart tv functions even though I like them plenty.

Doing better than me, this is how my new tv was delivered from Woot.com:

Yikes! I decided to order mine from amazon at 2:30 PM that day, got it at 10:17 AM the next day in perfect condition. It's these sorts of contrasting experiences that have driven me out of the business of shopping for "deals" online. I've never dealt with Woot, they going to take it back?
